Your Guide To Styling Your Curls
Step one:
Start by shaking out your curls. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp to help break up any dandruff.
Step two:
Wash your curls. Try to use a low poo or gentle cleansing shampoo. While it may seem strange not to have suds in your curls, it’s actually much better for your hair and will damage your curls significantly less. After cleansing your curls, follow up with your favorite conditioner and deep conditioning treatment.
Step three:
After rinsing out the conditioner, while you’re still in the shower, bend over and squeeze your curls gently. This should remove excess water, while allowing your curls to begin taking their natural shape. Flip your curls over, and grab your styling product. This is a great time to apply a leave in conditioner, as well as a styling aid, like a gel or cream. Apply each product individually, scrunching it into your hair. This will keep your curl defined while still giving great coverage with the product. Use a microfiber towel to sop up excess water.
Step four:
Grab your favorite diffuser, and attach it to your hair dryer. With your hair still flipped over, work the diffuser throughout your strands. Use it gently, focusing on each individual curl clump. This part takes some time, so plan accordingly. Before moving on, make sure each area is completely dry. Once curls are about 80% dry, stop diffusing and allow your strands to finish air drying.
Step five:
As your curls are finishing drying, you can add in some extra gel or styling cream as needed. Focus on your ends, and scrunch the product upwards.
Step six:
Now you’ve applied your product throughout. It’s time to allow your curls to completely finish drying. You can either air dry, or if you’re in a rush, you can use the diffuser to finish. Focus on any areas that might need extra encouragement, and touch those up with gel. After the hair is totally dry, you can use your hair spray to help hold your curls in place.
