The Quickest Way To Long Curls
Have you ever tried to grow out your curls? If so, you know it can take forever, especially for those with kinky coils. This is because the tighter the coil, the shorter your strands appear. There are other factors that can keep curls from achieving length, such as damage, dryness, or breakage. Here’s some of our favorite tips to help you find the quickest way to long curls.
Spray bottle:
If you don’t already own one, pick up a spray bottle. This can be used to mist your curls with water. The regular hydration will help keep them supple and limit breakage.
Sulfate free shampoo:
Consider switching from a chemical-ridden shampoo to something more natural and sulfate free. Sulfates are incredibly trying, which leads to damage.
Conditioner:
Your conditioner works to soften curls, making them more supple and less likely to break. Follow every shampoo treatment with a conditioner, and allow it to sit in your hair for 15-30 minutes to allow it to absorb.
Leave-in conditioner:
Following your shampooing and conditioner, make sure to follow with a leave in conditioner. This can also be used throughout the day or on off days as needed to infuse your dry strands with extra moisture. This is especially important in the winter, because the cold air can be very drying.
Detangling:
Chuck the brush and use your fingers, or a wide toothed comb. Brushes disrupt curl patterns. Instead, work on each knot individually to remove it without damaging or breaking your curl strands.
Protect your curls:
When you go to bed, use silk or satin to protect your curls from the dry night air or from rough pillow covers. Instead, cover your curls with a satin cap or lie on a silk pillowcase. When in doubt, consider using a protective style to help your curls retain moisture. Additionally, make sure you’re using pull free elastics.
