Do you ever leave the shower and feel as though your curl washing experience was less than ideal? If so, perhaps you need to consider that your routine might need some refreshing. These are the curl washing tips you need. After you’ve tried these tips, you’re sure to love your curls even more.
The Curl Washing Tips You Need
Protect curls:
Before jumping in the shower, you’ll want to protect your strands. This will need to be something like a lightweight oil. This will lock moisture in, and protect your strands from the washing process. Allow the oil to sit in your curls for at least an hour prior to washing.
Section curls:
After your strands have been prepooed, section your strands out into 4-6 even sections. Get into the shower and completely saturate your strands with warm, but not scalding hot, water. Once your curls are completely wet, apply your shampoo or cowash. Use a generous amount, and work the product into your scalp and upper parts of your strands with your finger tips. Massage into your scalp, encouraging blood flow and breaking up build up.
Apply conditioner:
After you’ve washed your curls, rinse away the cleanser and apply conditioner. Completely saturate your strands from the midshaft down, and allow the product to sit in your curls for at least 10 minutes. 30 – 60 are better if your curls are particularly dry or damaged. Once the conditioner has sat for the recommended time, use fingers or a wide toothed comb to remove tangles. Work slowly and carefully throughout the sections, tackling each knot individually.
Deep conditioner:
Every week or biweekly, take time to apply deep conditioner with heat. Do this by applying the deep conditioner throughout your strands, and then covering your hair with a plastic cap. Apply heat using a steam hood, or by warming a towel and wrapping it around your head. Allow it to sit for 30-60 minutes before rinsing out with cool water.
Daily care:
It’s important to take care of your curls daily. Therefore, you’ll need to moisturize and seal your strands every single day.
