Cowash:

Start by cowashing your curls. This will help cleanse and moisturize your curls. After you’ve added in your cowash, make sure to take the time to gently detangle your curls so there are no knots. After you’ve gotten rid of knots, apply a curl care mask, or a deep conditioning treatment. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Product:

After you’ve rinsed out the deep conditioner, it’s time to apply a mousse for curl control. Use the prayer hands method so you’re applying product evenly without breaking up established clumps. If you notice the clumps are breaking up, apply a bit of water and some more mousse to help curls clump up again.

Arrange:

Flip your curls back over, and organize your strands as they would appear naturally. Using your fingers, part your curls how you’d like your part to fall. Twist curl clumps around your face, so you have some natural softness. Then, you’ll want to clip your roots. Use your favorite technique to get the most lift out of your strands without creating creases. You can then gently blot or squeeze out excess water.

Dry:

If you have enough time, allowing your curls to air dry is often the best bet. However, if you’re in a rush, using a diffuser can also help hasten this process, and give some volume as well. Make sure to focus on the roots to encourage lift. Once your curls are completely dry with no wet spots, carefully remove the clips. You can then gently lift your curls from the roots, using your fingers, a pick, or widetoothed comb. Do your best to avoid disturbing the ends.

Finish:

If needed, you can apply a bit of oil or smoothing balm to the ends of your curls. Flip your head back and forth, and enjoy big, bouncy curls with great hold!
