If you have curls, you’ve probably figured out that taking care of them is different than caring for straight hair. Curls are delicate and haveva difficult time retaining moisture. This puts them at risk for damage and split ends. Here’s some tips on how to care for your curls to keep them beautiful and healthy.
Hot oil massage:
Natural oils are great for curls. You can use your favorite oil, such as olive or coconut, to make a nourishing treatment for curls. Warm up your oils and use your fingertips to massage it directly into your scalp. Comb the excess through your strands. Cover and allow to sit for 30 minutes before washing out with a mild shampoo.
Apple cider vinegar:
After any type of curl treatment, you can consider using ACV to help rinse any residue from your strands. Pour throughout your curls to neutralize any treatments and close down your cuticles.
Shampooing:
Your curls won’t need to be washed daily. In fact, over washing could actually harm them. Try to limit your washes to 1-2 times per week. If you need a refresher in between you can try cowashing your curls. When you do shampoo, use one with a mild formula and follow up with a conditioner. You should also use a deep conditioner and protein treatment as needed.
Taking care of curls:
Curls require a bit of extra care. Once you’ve shampooed and conditioned, detangle your curls using your fingers or a wide toothed comb. Ditch the brush as it’ll only make your hair frizzy. Dry your curls using a microfiber towel or a diffuser attachment on your hairdryer to avoid frizz and damage. Select the right styling products based upon your individual curls’ needs and avoid products that contain a large amount of chemicals, as that will damage curls.
