Have you ever struggled with styling your curly hair? If so, you’re not alone. Curly hair can be a challenge, especially for newbies! Not to worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to style curly hair. Don’t be afraid to adjust this technique as necessary to suit your individual curly hair needs.
Here’s How To Style Curly Hair
Step one: cleansing
Shampoo your curls only when it’s essential. Instead, opt to cowash. This gentle technique cleanses curls to remove build up without damaging delicate curls. Use warm water to loosen build up, but avoid scalding the scalp with extra hot water. This gives you a good base to begin styling.
Step two: conditioning
Conditioning is critical for healthy and easy to style curls. Conditioner replaces lost moisture, softens strands, and help curls maintain a natural shape. Skip concentrating conditioner on your roots and instead focus on the shaft of the curls. When rinsing out shampoo or conditioner, use cold water.
Step three: detangling
Using a wide toothed comb or your fingers is the best way to approach detangling. If you tear or pull at snarls, you risk damaging your delicate curls. As a result, curls will be much more difficult to manage. Make sure you also use a lot of conditioner to create slip. After you’ve detangled, use a microfiber towel to gentle squeeze any excess water out from your curls.
Step four: drying and shaping
Guess what? You’re almost done! Now is the time to apply curl care products. Before you start slathering on product, spend some time to figure out what’s right for you. Identify what your curls need, such as extra hydration or a stronger hold, before purchasing a product. Read the product description and instructions before applying. Apply products by scrunching gently into your curls. This will create volume, lift, and allow curls to be set into their natural shape.
In order to dry your curls, you can allow your strands to air dry, or use a diffuser to hasten the process. When you’re drying your curls, make sure you’re not touching your strands until completely dry and set.
