Find the right products:
One of the key suggestions is to find out what type of products works best for your type of curls. Additionally, when you’re using products, it’s important to know how your curls are going to respond to the product. Make sure to read the ingredients and instructions to get the most out of the product.
Boost your volume:
Volume at the roots is an issue for a lot of curly girls. Your curls can be really heavy, which pulls down volume at your roots. One of the best ways to enhance volume is to get a great haircut with lots of layers. This will help remove some of the weight, and allow your roots more opportunity for lift. When drying, you can also use clips to help boost your roots. On your third or fourth day between washes, dry shampoo can also help boost your roots.
Skip the brush:
All curls get tangles, it’s just the nature of the beast. Therefore, you’ll want to toss that brush. Brushes only disrupt your natural curl pattern, creating more frizz. Instead, focus on using your fingertips or a wide toothed comb to work through individual tangles. Working from the ends towards your roots will also help minimize breakage.
Condition dry curls:
This was a new concept for us, but it makes sense. As Mona Gohara, MD, a dermatologist at Yale University says, when you saturate your curls with water, you leave less room for the conditioner to penetrate into the strand. Therefore, slathering up your dry strands with conditioner gives the product a better chance to do its work. Cover your curls with a plastic shower cap, and allow it sit for at least 30 minutes before rinsing out with warm (not hot) water.
