Hydrate: Healthy curls start from the inside out. Make sure you’re eating a healthy diet, and drinking plenty of water. Making sure you’re properly hydrate will help your curls stay healthy. You can also expose your curls to warm steam to open the cuticle and allows moisture to penetrate.

Shampoo: When you’re choosing shampoos for cleansing your curls, make sure to pick a highly moisturizing one. Try to avoid shampooing your curls unless they absolutely need it, and select shampoos that are free of silicones or sulphates, which can be drying. When rinsing your curls, use cool or lukewarm water, as excessively hot water can damage sensitive curls.

Condition: Always follow your cleansing with a moisture-rich conditioner. Moisturizing your curls will promote healthy elasticity, which will minimize breakage and dullness. Make sure to apply your conditioner to all the strands of your hair to ensure moisturizing coverage. To get the most benefit from your conditioner, wrap your curls in a towel and allow the heat from your head to help the moisture penetrate your curl’s cuticles.  Conditioners will help smooth down any rough cuticles, giving your curls shine and helping them stay healthy.

Deep Condition: To make sure your curls are getting enough moisture and strengthening proteins, utilize a deep conditioner at least once a week. Use a deep conditioner after cleansing and conditioning your curls. In order to get the most out of your treatment, wrap your head in a towel and allow to sit for 15-30 minutes. Deep conditioners offer more highly concentrated ingredients designed to penetrate deeply into your curl’s cortex.

Sealing conditioner: After you’ve cleansed and conditioners your curls, follow up with a leave-in conditioner. This will allow your curls to retain the essential moisture. A good leave-in conditioner should be water based, and have moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, jojoba and almond oils. Use this product sparingly and apply through curls to ensure even coverage.
