If you’ve got curls, you’ve probably got frizz. Whether it’s something you deal with occasionally or often, frizzing can be really annoying. Frizz is often caused by lack of moisture in curls, causing the cuticle to open up in an effort to attract water. If you live in a very humid environment, use a lot of heat tools or over wash your curls, you might be at risk for frizz. However, if you do struggle with it not all hope is lost. Here’s a great DIY treatment you can make with things you probably have right in your pantry.
Coconut oil conditioning spray:

Coconut oil is one of the few natural oils that can deeply penetrate the cortex of your curls. To get this benefit, you can add 2 tablespoons of melted virgin coconut oil with 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oils (like lavender or rosewater) to 1 cup of purified water. Stir together until well incorporated and then put the mixture into a clean water bottle. Shake until it’s completely mixed before using. Spray throughout damp curls, making sure to completely cover all strands. You can also use the spray on dry curls before bedtime. You can use this treatment nightly until you see some improvement with the frizz.
There are other great ways to use coconut oil! You can melt it and then apply it throughout damp curls, cover with a cap and sit under heat for 30-60 minutes to allow the oil to deeply penetrate the curl’s shaft.
You can also take coconut milk, which will work to gently moisturize frizzy curls. Warm 2-3 tablespoons of coconut milk, depending on how much hair you have. Apply to your curls before bedtime and cover with a towel. Cleanse your curls in the morning and enjoy the benefits of the coconut milk!
