Easy Ways To Keep Natural Curls Moisturized
Products:
When you’re selecting your products, make sure to select ones that are heavily water based This means water should be listed as one of the top 3 ingredients. Ingredients such as aloe vera or shea butter will be a great choice. This will ensure your products are providing your strands with the right amount of moisture throughout the day. Remember, only use oils after you’ve applied hydrating oils to lock moisture in. Without the product applied first, it won’t actually moisturize your strands and can actually make curls more dry.
Apple cider vinegar:
Over time, products can build up in your curls. This means your strands will become dry as they aren’t able to absorb more moisture. When that happens, you’ll want to give yourself an apple cider vinegar rinse. ACV when diluted with water can also help soothe an irritated scalp, close cuticles, and remove build up. Your scalp and strands will be re-balanced, meaning your strands are going to be able to absorb more moisture. Also, your strands will have much less frizz and will be shinier.
Clarify:
Your curls are going to need regular clarifying treatments to get rid of that product build up. If ACV isn’t for you, grab a clarifying shampoo and use it every 4-6 weeks. This will remove build up and allow moisture to penetrate more deeply into your strand’s cuticle again.
Protect:
In order to keep your curls from constantly losing moisture, you might want to consider utilizing protective styles. These styles help keep your curls wrapped inside one another, so moisture can’t as easily escape. The key with protective styles is to make sure they’re not too tight, to avoid pulling on your follicles. Additionally, make sure you’re regularly taking your strands out of the style and giving them a few days of rest between.
