6 Steps to Fresh Fall Curls

Happy Fall, y’all! Cooler weather is officially here and with it comes lots of changes. One of the biggest things to do is to get your curly hair prepped for the upcoming colder, drier months (sorry, it had to be said). While we know all curls are not created equal, and every curly girl has her own mane to manage, we can’t help but think a quick refresher on how to get those curls ready for fall and winter is in order.

Step 1: Start with the prepoo! If you don’t shampoo your curls every day, or even every week, this is a good first step. A good product for this is fractioned coconut oil, which can be found on Amazon.  You’re going to want to smother your curls in this product, cover them with a cap or towel (wear an old t-shirt so you don’t make a mess) and hang out for a few hours to allow time for the coconut oil to be absorbed.

Step 2: Wash those curls! While we know a lot of curly girls cowash (using shampoo and conditioner to retain moisture) this is a good opportunity to start with a clean slate. Use your gentlest shampoos and don’t be afraid to mix and match to create your perfect curl cocktail.

Step 3: Deep condition those curls! Use your fingers or your wide tooth comb to work the conditioner into your curls, starting at the scalp and through to the ends. This is not a time to be stingy with product as you’re going to want to really slather those curls up. Finish by wrapping your hair in a towel or putting in a cap to let some natural heat warm your curls, which will allow the moisturizer to penetrate your curls more deeply. Leave the moisturizer on for an hour or so.

Step 4: Use a tea rinse! We know, it sounds a little crunchy but hear us out! A tea such as chamomile can help calm a sensitive scalp and soothe your curls. To create a tea rinse, boil water and steep your tea (the longer the better…about half an hour or so). Allow the tea to cool and then pour it over your hair, making sure you massage the moisturizer out. Leave the tea rinse in!

Step 5: Apply your favorite leave in conditioner! If you feel as though your current product is too watery, swap it for your regular conditioner. Those curls can use any bit of moisture they can get.

Step 6: Finish your look with your favorite styling product!  You are now ready to rock your curls for the upcoming fall. Keep us updated on your fresh fall curls by sharing your looks
