While there isn’t much we can do to change the rate at which your curls growth (about 1/2″ inch per month) there are things that can be done to help keep curls healthy. Why should I use rice water?

Glad you asked! There are a ton of great benefits to using rice water on curls. Rice water is full of amazing vitamins and minerals, which your curls can benefit from. Additionally, the rice water tightens the hair shaft, helping minimize frizz and preventing damage. The less damage, the longer curls can stay and the more healthy hair will grow. Rice water will also increase blood flow to the scalp, which automatically means curl growth is stimulated.

How to make it:

Take a small pot and fill with water, more than would normally be used for making rice. Fill the remaining pot with rice; any type will work just fine. There’s no need to make a special trip to the market, just use what’s on hand in the kitchen. Boil the rice for 30-45 minutes, reducing to a simmer once the boil has been achieved. Once the time is up, allow the pot to cool for a few minutes. You’ll see a cloudy layer of liquid on top of the rice. This is what you want. Either skim the liquid off the top or strain and drain into a mason jar.

How to use it:

Once you have your rice water, use a funnel to pour it into a spray bottle. Keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, shaking when needed to reincorporate the liquid. Spray throughout damp hair before applying products or styling. When spraying, make sure to spritz strands and massage into scalp to get full benefits.
