To start, you need to learn what a pre poo is. A pre poo is usually made up of a water based conditioner, an oil, or a product you make yourself. The goal of a pre poo is to coat the strands before washing to prevent the loss of natural moisture. Pre poo is applied throughout your curls while dry, prior to washing. Pre poo keeps moisture in, prevents breakage, and makes detangling easier. So really, there’s no reason not to do it.
How to do it:
Start by selecting the type of pre poo you want to use. We suggest an oil. For thicker, kinkier coils, you can use a heavier oil like olive to thoroughly coat your strands. For finer curls, opt for something more lightweight.
Section curls into 4-6 even sections, depending on how much hair you have. Add the pre poo to your curls, and completely coat your strands. Massage the pre poo directly into your scalp using only your finer tips. Once your curls are completely coated, you can work on detangling strands. As always, use only your fingers or a wide toothed comb to work through tangles. Repeat throughout each section, adding pre poo to the ends of each section. Then, put your curls into a twist or a braid. Then, cover your hair and allow it to sit for at least an hour. If your curls are particularly dry, you can leave a pre poo on overnight.
