Do your strands feel dry, irritated, and lifeless? If so, you might want to consider picking up some peppermint oil. This oil has been used by curlies everywhere to help stimulate curl growth and help maintain a healthy scalp. Peppermint oil encourages healthy blood flow in your scalp, which helps follicles product healthy curls. It also works great to help deter lice, and manage dandruff due to its anti fungal properties.
One of the best ways peppermint oil can be used is to help your curls grow. Here’s a great DIY recipe you can use to encourage your curl growth. The best part is that most curlies already have these great ingredients in their pantries for their other DIY curl care products! If you don’t, they’re easy to find.
What you’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons organic coconut oil
- 4 tablespoons castor oil
- 8-10 drops peppermint oil
What to do:
In a small pot, melt the coconut oil over very low heat. Once the coconut oil has melted add in the castor oil. Heat until all the ingredients are combined. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes. Add in the peppermint oil and mix until smooth. Pour the mixture into a glass container for storage.
Wash your curls with a gentle cleansing shampoo. If your scalp and curls need a little pick me up, you can also consider adding few drops of peppermint oil to your shampoo. Once your curls are wet, apply the mixture to your scalp using your fingertips. Massage into your scalp. Once you’ve covered your scalp, flip your curls upside down and continue to massage your head for another 3-4 minutes. This inversion method will encourage the blood to flow to your scalp. Allow the oil to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes. You can also keep it on overnight for a deeper, more intensive treatment. You can use this treatment up to 3 times per week to encourage your curls to grow.
