The Coconut Shampoo Bar You Can Make Yourself
All around the world, more and and more curly girls are embracing the less waste movement. This means trying to find products that require less packaging. It’s better for the environment and also the products are often less processed. As curly girls consider what they’re putting on their hair, many are turning to making their own curly care products. Here’s the coconut shampoo bar you can make yourself.
What you’ll need:
- ½ cup organic coconut milk
- 1/3 cup organic coconut cream
- ¼ cup organic coconut oil
- ½ cup liquid castile soap
- 5-10 drops essential oil of your choosing
What to do:
In a medium sized bowl, add together the coconut milk and the coconut cream. Using a hand mixer, blend until completely incorporated. Once the mixture is smooth and free of any lumps, add in the coconut oil and Castile soap. This is also a good time to add in essential oils. Some good choices are lavender, lemon, rosemary, tea tree, or peppermint. You can also combine oils to create your customized product.
Once the mixture is completely mixed, scoop into a mold, or ice cube tray. A larger mold works best, as it gives you something to hold onto in the shower by making a bigger bar. Freeze until the product is completely solid.
Use:
Store in a sealed jar in the freezer or fridge if you’d like to preserve them for longer.
Take one into the shower and use it as you would a shampoo. Completely wet down curls, and use the bar to scrub the scalp. Allow the soap to rinse through curls to continue cleansing. While the bars won’t suds up like regular shampoos do, it will still provide an excellent cleaning with a great boost of moisture.
