Make your own twist cream
This product is very easy to make, and odds are you’ve already got many of these products right at home in your pantry. One of the best things about making your own twist cream or other curl care products is that you can customize your products to make them work specifically for your curls. Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
1 cup organic shea butter
1/2 cup organic, fresh aloe vera gel
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon castor oil
What to do:
Place the shea butter into a microwave safe bowl, or soften in on the stovetop using a double boiler. Once the shea butter is softened, but not completely melted, place it in a bowl. Then, using a mixer, add in the ingredients one by one. Mix the ingredients together until they become whipped, and are light and fluffy. Once the ingredients are completely incorporated, scoop out of the bowl and save in an airtight container.
How to use it:
Between uses, store your twist cream in a cool, dry place. With time, you might notice the product separating, and it will need to be remixed, but that’s ok. Just mix it up using a spoon or your mixer before using, as needed. If you live in a particularly hot area, you can also keep this product in the fridge to prevent it from spoiling.
You can use this twist cream in a couple of ways. Apply throughout damp curls, and then twist. As you’re working your curls into the twists, apply more to smooth down the curls as needed. This product will help smooth your curls, as well as locking in moisture for your strands.
While you’re wearing your curls in twists, you can smooth down any flyaways or errant hairs with this cream. When you remove the twists, you can then use this as a styling product to help revive your curls.
