Everyone wants to get the most bang for their buck when it comes to their curl care products, and who can blame them? There are a ton of products out there, and all promise amazing results. One of the key differences is price tag. Not everyone can afford a large budget for their curl care products, but everyone wants great results and to find a product they love. Therefore, we often found ourselves asking the question, is there a difference between high end and drugstore curl products ? We decided to dig in a little deeper and find out.
Is there a difference between high end and drugstore curl products?
When it comes to curly hair products, not all products are made equal. There are a lot of products out there, and some are made with superior ingredients, or have a better-researched formula. As a result, it can be really difficult to wade through all of the products out there to figure out which is best for your curls. Additionally, if your budget is limited, than it can be worthwhile to think about how and where you want to spend your money. Perhaps focusing on 2-3 higher end products might prove to be more worthwhile.
Drugstore curl products:
Generally, drugstore products are more inexpensive than higher end products. Additionally, they are often easier to find and source. You are probably going to be able to find them right at your local drugstore or big box store. This makes getting your hands on a product, especially in a pinch, easier than other brands. Another great thing about drugstore products is that it’s a big more cost effective to try out different products as opposed to upperscale brands. It hurts a lot less to toss a bottle of $6 shampoo as opposed to a $26 bottle of shampoo.
However, there are some flipsides to this. Drugstore products often have less quality ingredients, so it can take more time to weed through and find a product that’s safe for your curls. They may not last as long as higher end brands, and sometimes take a bit more effort to use.
Higher end curl products:
Higher end products tend to refer to lines that may have a higher price point, but generally have better quality ingredients. However, they can be a bit trickier to source. You might have to go directly to a salon to purchase the products you love, which can be more expensive. The plus side is that you know exactly what you’re getting, and the product is endorsed by the brand. Beware of purchasing your salon exclusive products elsewhere, such as at discount stores or even in box stores, as they may not be the same high quality product you’ve become accustomed to.
When you’re using high quality products, you’ll probably notice that less is more. These brands are frequently more concentrated, meaning your product will work better and you won’t need as much to get your curls to do what you need them to. Additionally, your curls will overall be healthier in the long run, which means your curls will be much easier to care for. One of the downsides is that because these products are more expensive, it can be harder to be willing to purchase one and have it not work.
