How To Save Your Curls With Coconut Oil
What you’ll need:
1/2 cup coconut oil
3 tablespoons honey
Optional add ins:
For a dry, itchy scalp:
6 drops tea tree oil or 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon
To refresh your scalp:
6 drops of lavender, or bergamot essential oils
As always, test essential oils before using to make sure you don’t have a reaction, and avoid any ingredients you may have a sensitivity to.
What to do:
This recipe couldn’t get any easier. Place the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl, and melt. Don’t allow it to boil or become too hot, as this could burn you. For example, once the coconut oil and honey are melted, mix together until completely blended. You can also add in any extra ingredients at this time, such as your lavender oil.
Wet your curls, or do this after you’ve washed your strands. Section your hair into 4-6 even sections, and apply this mixture throughout. If you have thick, kinky curls, go ahead and apply directly to your scalp and throughout. However, if you have finer strands that tend to get weighed down, avoid scalp application and instead start from the midshafts down.
Once curls are completely covered, cover with a plastic shower cap and then wrap curls with a towel. Allow to sit for an hour, or overnight if curls are really damaged or dry. As a result, you can also apply heat if you’d like. In the morning, rinse away with a gentle shampoo and warm water. Follow with your favorite conditioner. Repeat this treatment as necessary to restore dry curls.
