Do you have platinum or silver curls? If so, you’re probably feeling like you’re often fighting a losing battle when it comes to brassiness in your strands. Sometimes, lighter colored strands can take on a brassy, or green sheen from coloring, your water, or the elements. While blue and purple shampoos can go a very long way in minimizing this issue, it’s also no secret that most of these products contain artificial ingredients like sulfates that can be harmful to curls. Therefore, here’s how to remove brassiness from curls with this DIY blue liquid. You can add it to your favorite shampoo, co wash, conditioner, or leave in conditioner to help tame brassiness without damaging your curls. Make sure you let us know how you like this liquid.
_What you’ll need:
_To get started on this DIY recipe, you’ll need to gather a few ingredients. Start with butterfly pea flowers. Not only do they have a beautiful blue sheen that will counteract brassiness, they’re also loaded with antioxidants. This will make them a great choice for those you are color treating their hair, or in the process of transitioning to natural curls.
10 butterfly pea flowers
3/4 cup water
Fine mesh strainer
Really, that’s it! If you’d like to make this a purple liquid instead of blue, you’ll need to add one tsp of apple cider vinegar. In a small saucepan, combine the flowers and water, bringing it to a boil. Mix frequently, until the water becomes a nice, deep blue. If you’re going to mix this liquid with products, you might want it to be more concentrated so after 15 minutes, remove the flowers from the mix and allow it to continue boiling down. After it’s boiled to a consistency that won’t make your products runny, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool. If you’d like to make purple liquid, you can then add in your ACV, and mix it.
Add the blue mix to your products immediately, or store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use. You can also add it to treatments, like fermented rice water, to help remove brassiness, and increase the overall health of your curls.
