When your curls are dry, or in need of some TLC, making your own treatment can be just the ticket. Give this homemade product a try, and let us know if you love it.
How To Make Your Own Protein Treatment
Mayo and avocado:
I know, this one sounds like of out there. However, the foundation of this protein is strong. The mayonnaise features eggs, which provide needed protein, and oil, which provides moisture. Adding in the avocado helps smooth down dry, distressed strands to minimize frizz.
Mix 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise with 1/2 of a ripe avocado. Use a handmixer to really blend the products together until they’re smooth. This will make for a much easier application. Apply from roots to tips, making sure your curls are damp. You could also do this with freshly washed curls. Cover, and allow to sit for at least an hour. Rinse with warm water.
Yogurt and honey:
This product is a powerhouse of healthy ingredients. For this one, you’ll need 1/4 cup of raw shea butter, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 5 tablespoons of Jamaican Black castor oil, 1 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon raw honey, and 1 large egg.
Start by heating the shea butter and coconut oil together until melted. The microwave in intervals of 30 seconds or a double boiler on the stove top works great for this. Once the shea butter and coconut oil are melted, allow to cool for a couple of minutes. Place in a mixer, and blend. One by one, add the remaining ingredients and continue to blend. Once all the ingredients are fully mixed into a smooth consistency, apply to freshly washed hair. You can massage this one directly into your scalp, as the castor oil will help remove build up and strengthen blood flow.
Cover with a plastic shower cap and a towel, then allow it to sit on your hair for at least 60 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
