Give This DIY Hot Oil Treatment A Try
What you’ll need:
3 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp olive oil
10-15 drops essential oils
1 tbsp honey
What to do:
Take the coconut oil and warm it. You can do this on the stovetop with warm water in a pan, or in your microwave. Carefully melt the coconut oil, but don’t allow it to burn. After the coconut oil is completely melted, add in the olive oil, essential oils, and honey. For this treatment, essential oils such as lemon, lavender, chamomile, rosemary, or peppermint will work great.
Allow the product to cool slightly, but not to completely solidify. Section your strands into 4-6 even sections, and apply the oil evenly throughout from your scalp to the ends. Use your fingertips to massage the oil into your scalp, and pull the remainder through. The essential oils, coconut, olive oils, and honey will break up dandruff and buildup. This will encourage healthier growth as your hair follicles are stimulated and blood flow is increased.
Cover your curls with a plastic shower cap, and apply heat for 30-60 minutes. This is also a great treatment to do before shampooing your curls, as the oils will protect your strands. Wash the oils out with a gentle cleansing shampoo and follow up with your favorite deep conditioning treatment. Your curls will be healthier, shinier, and easier to manage.
