Most of us curly haired girls remember leave in conditioners from our childhood. Our parents would spray it into our curls after swimming at the public pool, or after a shower and your nightly comb-out before bed. As we grew up, many of us abandoned the childhood curly hair treatment in favor of hair masques, deep conditioners and oils. Is this something we should be adding back into our curly care routine? Celebrity stylists Lacy Redway and Gregory Russell agree: leave in conditioners are a must for girls with curly hair.

Using a leave in conditioner on your wet curls helps lock in essential moisture, helping to combat frizz and damage. While your hair is wet after cleansing, spray the product through your curls, focusing on the mid length and ends. Using leave in conditioner on your roots could cause your curls to become heavy and weighed down. Allow the conditioner to be absorbed for all day shine and frizz control.
While you might need to assess your curl type to pick the right product, it’s useful for all curly girls. Those of us with finer, more delicate curls are going to need to look for a lighter product. Some curlies with finer hair might opt to skip the in shower conditioners occasionally and use their leave in conditioner instead. Curlies with coarser coils can pick up a heavier product, as it will not weigh down their curls.
