It doesn’t have to be difficult to learn how to love your curls! Here are some tips for styling curls:
Love your curl type:
Stop worrying about what other girls have on their heads and learn to love your own curl type. Each curl is as unique and individual as you are, which makes you extra special. People spend a lot of time and money trying to have what you were born with, so flaunt it! Remember, the grass isn’t always greener, especially when it comes to your beautiful curls.
Moisturize:
We can’t express enough the importance of moisturizing your curls. Curls are naturally dry, which means they are prone to frizz and other difficulties. Head this off at the pass by moisturizing your curls. Try to avoid any curl care products that feature sulfates or alcohols, as they can contribute to your curls drying out.
Cleanse correctly:
Shampoo has its time and place, but it’s not something you want to be using regularly on your delicate strands. Try to limit the amount of times per week and month that you shampoo your curls (about bi weekly). If you need a refresher between shampoos, you can cowash instead.
Aways condition:
This one goes hand and hand with moisturizing. Conditioner is your friend! You can use it to create slip for detangling, and it helps lock in moisture. Select a product that’s the right weight for your curls, as well as one that’s super hydrating.
Fight frizz:
Frizz is enemy number one of curly hair, but there’s a lot you can do to manage it. Try to fight frizz by moisturizing your curls, avoiding using products with sulfates or alcohols, and taking care of your curls correctly post=cleansing. Remove excess water from your curls by blotting them dry with a microfiber towel or t-shirt. Try to avoid using brushes or rubbing your curls dry. When you do go to sleep, use a satin or silk pillowcase to avoid moisture wicking cotton.
