The DIY Carrot Cake Curl Defining Deep Conditioner
Ingredients:
- 3 large carrots
- 1 cup of olive oil
- 1 cup coconut oil
- 4 to 6 drops vanilla essential oil OR 1/2 shaved vanilla bean
What to do:
Wash and peel the carrots. Grate the carrots and wrap shavings into a paper towel or cheesecloth. Squeeze and squeeze until as much of the water as possible is removed. Allow carrots to dry for 2 hours, laying flat on a plate.
Once carrots are dry, place into crock pot. Add oils, and turn crock pot to low. Allow to simmer for one hour. Monitor closely to make sure the oil doesn’t burn or boil up. After the hour, turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool for 4 hours.
Pour the oil through a fine mesh strainer to remove the carrot pieces and throw those out. Pour the oil into a jar and save in the fridge.
How to use:
There are a few great choices for using this oil. Section curls into 4 – 6 even sections and apply the oil to the scalp. Use the finger tips to massage it in. Work in small, slow circles to remove dandruff and build up. Allow the oil to sit for 30-60 minutes to take full effect. Rinse with warm water.
This oil also works great as a hot oil treatment to pre poo your curls! Warm the oil and apply from scalp to ends. You can also do the scalp massage mentioned above, then pull the oil through to the end of your curls. Cover your hair with a cap and allow to sit for 30 minutes, applying heat.
