As winter approaches, many of us are preparing our curls for the colder weather. Often, the dry, cold air, along with curls constantly rubbing on scarves and hats can lead to breakage. With many of us still under quarantine, it can be hard to get out to pick up your favorite products. However, you can turn tonight’s dinner into a treatment for your curls! Here’s how to use rice water to strengthen your curls. Not only is this super easy, it’s inexpensive, and your curls will look fabulous. So what’s not to love? Let’s get started.
How To Use Rice Water To Strengthen Your Curls
Let’s start with why:
If you;re anything like us, you like to know why you should be doing something before jumping in. That’s totally ok, and we have you covered! Rice water has been suggested to strengthen hair, help encourage growth, smooths down frizz for shiny, glossy curls, adds volume, and improves elasticity. So really, the only question now is what are you waiting for?
How to do it:
Boil: Take 3 cups of water, and boil 1/4 cup of rice in it until the water is cloudy. Strain out the rice, and put the water in another jar. Take your jar of water with you into the shower (after you’ve allowed it to cool.) Cleanse you curls with your favorite low poo, and then rinse your curls with the rice water. Allow it to sit for several minutes before rinsing it out with cool water.
Soak: If you don’t have time to boil, that’s ok! You can try the soaking method. Take the same amount of water and rice, and place in a bowl or large jar, Cover, and allow it to sit for 12 hours. Strain out the liquid, placing it in a separate bowl, and discard the rice. Take the rice water into your shower, and after cleansing your curls use it the same as you would above.
After rinsing, condition and style your curls are you normally would. Enjoy softer, smoother, and shinier curls!
