curls
Do you ever feel as though you’re fighting a losing battle with your curls? It happens to the best of us, but there are some things you can do to help manage your curls and have great hair days everyday.
Ban the brush:
Brushes are no friend of curls. Avoid using a brush to detangle your curls, as this can tear at delicate strands and disrupt your curl’s natural pattern.
Shampoo gently:
Believe it or not, there’s a right way to shampoo your curls. Make sure to completely saturate your curls with water before applying shampoo using your finger tips. Focus on working the shampoo into your scalp using a firm but gentle pressure and then allow the suds to rinse through your strands. When you do wash, make sure to separate your curls into even sections and work through each section individually.
Regular trims:
If you don’t already, make sure you’re scheduling a regular trim with your stylist. This will help keep you on a routine and schedule for your cuts. Generally every 6-8 weeks is a good time and a regular trim will keep dead ends off and your strands healthy.
The right products:
Before you buy curl care products, assess your individual curl type and their needs. Not all products work for each curl, so you need to make sure you’re selecting the right ones for you. Check out blogs, read product labels, chat with your stylist or other curly girls to see what’s right for you.
Clean your tools:
If you use a comb to detangle your curls, a hair dryer and diffuser or heat tool, make sure you’re cleaning them regularly to avoid product build up. This will ensure your products are working their very best. Tools that have stuck on product can actually cause your curls to stick or burn, which will inhibit healthy hair growth.
