Do you wish your curls had more volume and lift? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Curls often lack natural volume, especially as they get longer and therefore heavier. The weight of your curly coils can oull your strands down, making it difficult to achieve natural volume. However, not all hope is lost! Using clips can be helpful in achieving volume. Here’s how to clip curls for more volume. Give this easy how-to a try, and let us know how it goes for you.
Why use clips?
If your curls often dry flat, you might want to consider picking up a package of small duck billed clips. By correctly clipping your curls, it will allow your strands to dry lifted up off of your scalp. This means when you remove the clips, you’ll have more volume. It’s easy, and can also be used with a diffuser for even more volume.
What to do:
Start with freshly washed curls, and apply your favorite curl control products throughout. Gently use a tshirt or microfiber towel to squeeze out excess water so your curls aren’t sopping wet. Use your fingers to gently lift your roots. Once you’d done this, lift small sections from the scalp. Start from the bottom of your head, and work your way up to the crown.
When you’re ready, pinch about an inch along the sections, and pull them directly up. Take your clip, and open it just slightly. Lift the curls so you’re creating a gentle arch, which will be what gives your strands volume when dried. Rake the clip along the scalp, sliding it into your curls to ensure they’re carefully lodged in. You don’t want to open the clip completely and clamp on the hair, as this will create a crimp when dry. Continue to work your way up from the back of your head onto your crown.
Once the clips are secure, grab your hair dryer and diffuser. Cup the curls from the bottom, holding the strands gently in the diffuser while drying at a low heat. Once one section is done, move along to the next one. Remember not to move your curls excessively while drying, or to touch until completely cooled.
Finally, move the diffusers to the clips and hold it over the clipped curls to fully dry them. Once you’re done diffusing, make sure curls are completely dry before removing your clips. Remove clips, spray your curls with your favorite hair spray to set, and allow to dry. Use your finger tips to lift any curls that need, and shake your strands out a bit to loosen your curls. Enjoy your new, volumized locks!
