Hair gels have gotten a bad rap in the curl care community as causing crunchy, sticky hair. While some of the old school gels certainly leave behind a less than desirable residue, not all cause these issues. Here’s the DIY curl defining gel you have to try. Make it at home to enjoy the benefits of a non sticky, great working gel!
The DIY Curl Defining Gel You Have To Try:

Ingredients:
• 1/3 cup whole flaxseeds
• 2 cups filtered water
• 10 drops rosemary essential oil
• 10 drops Rose oil
What to do:
In a small saucepan on your stove top, add in the water and flax seeds. Allow the water to simmer until the texture becomes thick and gelatinous.
Turn off the flame. Using a fine strainer, strain the gel mixture into a bowl. Your goal is to remove the tiny flax seeds. Add the essential oils into the strained gel and mix until completely incorporated.
Pour the gel into an air tight glass jar. A wide mouth mason jar would be a good choice for storage. Store your gel in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight or moisture.
How to use:
Wash and condition your curls. Using a T-shirt or microfiber towel, gently squeeze out excess water. You want damp hair but not dropping wet curls. Section curls into 8-10 sections and clip back sections you aren’t using. Apply a small amount of gel into your hands and apply to individual sections of curls by gently scrunching curls upwards. Allow to air dry or use a diffuser on low settings.
You can also use this gel as a curl care mask! Dampen curls and apply throughout. Cover and allow to sit 30-60 minutes prior to a shower.
